For a Romance Writer I'm not a particularly romantic person. Many acts of romance make me cringe.
You might think that someone who writes, every day, about love would have some grand ideas of romance, but in all honesty romance writing is focused more on relationships than gestures. Yes, it’s inevitable that when you’re writing about two people falling in love that there will be acts, but when you come down to the root of writing romance, we’re telling the stories of our characters. Of people.
Valentine’s Day has been and gone, and it doesn’t inspire me to write more romantically, because that’s what I do anyway. Sometimes the most romantic things are the acts in our daily lives that our loved ones do without thinking.
Do we need a special day to appreciate our loved ones? Well, as a single woman, I’m not sure I’m qualified to answer, but I do think no harm can come from making people stop and think about the person they share their every day with. We can get carried away with life, we can take each other for granted, and that’s not just romantic relationships, it’s all relationships, so yeah, maybe a day for each other is a good thing.
Hey, I’m a romantic person after all.
